Hendersonville Symphony High School Senior Scholarship

Every year, the Hendersonville Symphony Orchestra awards a scholarship to a graduating senior to help support their music education. This scholarship provides financial assistance for tuition and related expenses, with the goal of encouraging diverse musical talent across various music genres and instruments. The eligibility requirements listed below are designed to identify the candidate best suited for this opportunity.

Eligibility:

  • Must be a graduating senior at public, private, charter or accredited home school that meets NC approved educational standards.

  • Must be a resident of Henderson County, NC. or have been a participant in HSYO programs in senior year.

  • Must demonstrate musical aptitude supported by a written letter of recommendation from music instructor or teacher.

  • Must provide a second letter of recommendation from a community member that is not a member of your immediate family.

  • Must be in good academic standing with a minimum unweighted GPA of 3.0.

  • Must provide music resume that outlines individual’s music education history, academic honors, leadership skills, community service etc.

  • Must plan to attend a musical conservatory or other secondary educational institution which has a music department of recognized standing.

  • Applicants may be asked to be available for a brief interview as part of the application process.

Financial Assistance Programs

To support young musicians in their development and careers, the Hendersonville Symphony Orchestra (HSO) offers financial assistance programs throughout the school year. Our goal is to enable students to enrich their musical talents by participating in group programs, taking private lessons, renting instruments, or attending summer music camps.

To be eligible to receive HSO financial assistance, students must:
1. Play an orchestral instrument or vocal student
2. Be a rising 7th through 12th grader
3. Participate in at least one of the following:
a. Henderson County Schools Band, Vocal or Orchestra Music Program
b. Hendersonville Symphony Youth Orchestra (HSYO) or Youth Chorus

4. Deadline for Fall 2026 assistance:  October 1, 2026

Note: While financial need is considered, great emphasis is placed on student applications and teacher recommendations. Need-based assistance is also available for all Symphony Education Programs.  Our commitment is that no student is turned away from our programs for lack of funds.  Please contact the individual program managers directly for information on tuition scholarship applications or to support students in the various programs and ensembles.
