with the Asheville Symphony Chorus

This concert culminates a five-year, artistic journey–presenting all nine symphonies of Beethoven. Joined by four outstanding North Carolina soloists and the Asheville Symphony Chorus directed by Dewitt Tipton, the HSO offers an historic evening in the cultural life of our community.

April 21 at 7:30 pm

Guest artist James Dick performs the beloved Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini by Rachmaninoff. The HSO offers Hugo Alfven’s Swedish Rhapsody Midsommvarka and Mozart’s Symphony No. 35 Hafner, and the winner of our annual Young Artist Concerto Competition performs.

Save-the-date for this special evening celebrating 40 years of symphonic music making in Hendersonville. Over a year in the planning, this concert includes premiere brass fanfares by Peter Voisin, appearances by a former music director and other surprise guests, and the “greatest hits,” classical, pops, and holiday works you have enjoyed for four generations.

with the Hendersonville Children's Choir

December 9 at 7:30 pm & December 10 at 3:00 pm

The Blue Ridge Conference Hall will ring with the sounds of the holiday season and the voices of children as the HSO collaborates with the Hendersonville Children’s Choir directed by Kristen Walter. The concert includes ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas set to music, Alfred Reed’s Russian Christmas Music, plus familiar favorites and our annual carol sing-a-long.

with Lara St. John, violin

October 9 at 3:00 pm

Spectacular virtuoso violinist Lara St. John returns to Hendersonville to perform Concerto No. 1 by Dmitri Shostakovich. Hearing this fiery work, a tribute to the victims of a harrowing period in Russian history, will be a jaw-dropping experience. The orchestra presents Gounod’s ballet music from Faust and Celebration Fanfare by Bruce Healy in honor of the HSO’s 40th anniversary season.

with Byron Stripling, trumpet

September 10 at 7:30 pm & September 11 at 3:00 pm

Charismatic trumpeter, singer, and entertainer Byron Stripling joins the HSO for an evening of swinging, big band charts plus a tribute to Satchmo–Louis Armstrong. The orchestra pays homage to The Duke with a medley of hits including Caravan, Sophisticated Lady, and It Don’t Mean a Thing (If It Ain’t Got that Swing).
