The Beginning of Romanticism
Performing the eighth work of its 5-year Beethoven
symphony cycle, the HSO presents a milestone in the
history of classical music- the mighty Symphony
No. 3 “Eroica.” The concert opens with Rossini’s
delightful Overture to Italian Girl in Algiers and
the Young Artist Competition Winner performs a
well-known concerto movement.
“The HSO players took Beethoven’s instructions
seriously. Fortissimos, sudden dynamic contrasts,
a dramatic use of rests, confident syncopation
and other demanding features of the score were
produced on demand. This conductor and these
players communicate well in real time.”
— Classical Voice North Carolina
“I have always felt this work [Beethoven’s
Symphony No. 3” Eroica”] represents the single
most important event in music history.”
— W.A. DeWitt, composer
