Each year, the HSO and the Henderson County Board of Education work together to provide live symphonic performances for Third and Sixth Grade students in our county. The concerts serve to enrich and enhance the classroom curriculum, getting students "up close and personal" with the musicians and the instruments of the orchestra, and teaching them about composers and music in an engaging and memorable way.
On November 9th, 2011, Henderson County Third Graders will have the opportunity to hear the orchestra play Prokofiev's Peter and the Wolf, while Ron Whittemore narrates the story.
On March 28th, 2012, Sixth Grade students will hear Behind the Music of Europe and Russia, offering an historical journey through the music of the masters. Ron Whittemore guides us through this journey, which includes a powerpoint presentation to supplement the music.
In addition to students in Henderson County Public Schools, these performances are also open to Third and Sixth grade students attending county charter schools and private schools, as well as to home-school students. Since space may be limited, we ask that you make reservations if you plan to bring your students.
If you would like to be added to our school mailing list, or would otherwise like to receive information about our Education Concerts, please contact Cathy Walgenbach, HSO Orchestral Manager.
